Alice Josephine Tippin, née Faesser, age 89, of O'Fallon, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at her home.
She was born in Bergheim, France on March 8, 1920. As a young woman, during World War II, Alice worked for the Minister of Information with the French Film Commission in Paris. She soon met her future husband, William Anderson Tippin, who was serving in the US military during the Liberation of Paris. They married on May 24, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri. Alice was a devoted mother and faithfully supported her husband throughout his military career. She attended the University of Arkansas, with a focus in language and literature studies. She was a 43-year member of the O'Fallon Woman's Club, Inc., and a frequent patron and loyal supporter of the O'Fallon Public Library. She was a member of the Scott AFB Retired Officer's Wives Club and attended St. Clare Catholic Church.
Alice's family wishes to express their appreciation for the kindness and grace shown by the Hospice team, especially Nicki and Crystal, and also to her devoted and loving caretakers Donna, Lecita and Peggy of Home Instead. We are very grateful to her loyal friends and neighbors, especially Jean, Zeb, Pam and Connie, who were an abiding part of our mother's life for many decades.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Major William A. Tippin, USAF (retired) who passed away April 14, 1990, her parents Ignace and Clara, née Reuss, Faesser; and her sister Irene Theis.
She is survived by her children Annette (Don) Gordon of Tampa, Fla; William A. (Linda Lateana) Tippin of Washington, DC; and Marie Colton of Great Falls, Va.; and four grandchildren Caroline Gordon, Don Gordon, Jr., Adrianne Colton, and Justine Colton. Also surviving are her cousins Robert and Marie-Therese Study and family; and Gerard and Monique Lehman and family; all of Soufflenheim, France; sister-in-law Sue Tippin Jacobson and other dear family members in Tulsa, Okla.
Memorial Donations in honor of Mrs. Tippin may be made to the O'Fallon Public Library, 120 Civic Plaza, O'Fallon, IL 62269 or Hospice of Southern Illinois, 305 S. Illinois St., Belleville, IL 62220.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. Clare Catholic Church, 1411 Cross Street, Shiloh.
Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday April 3, 2009 at St. Clare Catholic Church, with Rev. James Deiters presiding. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Interment of cremated remains will be at 1:45 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
