Obituary

Lt. Col. Allen Lee Medford, USAF, retired, died on July 21, 2022 at home in O'Fallon, Ill.  He was married for 35 years to CeCelia Ann Trad of Cleveland, Ohio. CeCe passed in 2005 after a 6-year battle with breast cancer. Allen suffered from the symptoms and debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis which was diagnosed in 1995.

Col. Medford is survived by his daughter, Leslie Medford Eighmey, his son-in-law Chief Master Sergeant Jason Anders Eighmey, retired, grandson, Bryce Medford Eighmey, granddaughter Caroline Cecelia Eighmey, and his son, Stephen Trad Medford. Allen also leaves a brother, David Lynn Medford, numerous nieces and nephews in and around South Carolina, friends from the local area, numerous other cousins, friends, colleagues, and others throughout the world.

A graduate of Walhalla HS in South Carolina, the University of South Carolina & Webster University, Col. Medford retired from the USAF following 26 ½ years of service in a variety of command and logistics related positions. Following his military career, Allen obtained another college degree in construction management and spent almost 16 years in and around local government; his local legacy is ensuring the establishment of municipal projects, policies and procedures that benefit every resident of O'Fallon for decades to come. He volunteered as a tutor in the county jail and probation department teaching math and other skills to adults seeking their GEDs. He was a selfless servant, dedicated husband, stalwart father, avid sports fan, excellent driver, somewhat mildly decent golfer, member of local civic organizations, and beloved supporter of hundreds of charities across the country. To summarize the opinions of his former commanders: "Col. Medford is highly effective, clearly superior, an exceptionally qualified professional, extremely capable staff director, penetrating analyst, superb communicator, and an expert who demands the highest standards. He is a real warrior and leads from in front of the troops."  Anyone that knew and worked with Allen knows how true these declarations are. Allen will be sorely and forever missed.

We would like to thank all of the members of the VA Jefferson Barracks Spinal Cord Injury Clinic for their decades of support, neurologist Dr. Gregory Wu, Dr. Steven Taylor/HSHS family practice staff for their assistance and support for the past few years, and Daniela Boles for every hour of every day she spent with my father.
