Armand Karl Bieber, age 74, of Shiloh, born March 26, 1946 in Munich, Germany, to Clarence Bieber, and Wilma, nee Wagner, Bieber, passed into the realm of eternal life on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO, with his wife and daughters by his side.
Armand grew up in Millstadt and attended the Millstadt United Church of Christ, Millstadt Grade School and Belleville Township High School West. He enlisted in the US Army immediately following High School, serving most of his years in Germany as a Logistical Coordinator and Communications Operator. Armand received an Honorable Discharge upon the end of his Military Service. Following his time in the military, he worked for El Paso Natural Gas in Salt Lake City, Utah. Armand then moved back to Illinois where he was employed by Alton Southern Railroad and worked as a Linesman for 34 years.
Armand loved spending time in the "great outdoors" and his favorite pastimes were Bass Fishing and Hunting; he also enjoyed hunting for Morel Mushrooms each spring with family and friends. During his career as a Professional Bass Tournament Fisherman, Armand took 3 rd place in the State of Illinois in the early 1980's. He also enjoyed bowling, shooting darts and was also an accomplished billiards player. Armand held the biggest space within his love of sports for Baseball, especially within his diehard fandom of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Armand was given the title of "The Hummingbird Whisperer" of St. Clair County by the Belleville News Democrat when they wrote an expose about him and his hundreds of beloved hummingbirds. He built custom swings, posts, feeders, etc. and they often found their favorite perch upon his finger or atop the brim of his ballcap. Armand was an "extreme gardener" and this allowed him to spend much time chatting with his birds as he toiled away.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant son, Armand K. Bieber, Jr., and his beloved Golden Retriever, Haley.
He is survived by his wife Mary, nee Harding, whom he married August 7, 1976; his two daughters Tarrah (Jasen) Vaupel of Shiloh, Ill.; Lyndsey (Jesse) Derber of Lebanon, Ill.; his eight grandchildren: Gracelynn and Dalton Norgaard, Quinton, Branden, and Cassandra Vaupel, Nathan, Elijah and Eliana Derber; a sister Linda Jones of Birmingham, AL; a nephew Brandon (Meredith) Jones of Birmingham, Ala.; and dear cousins, buddies, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Wild Bird Sanctuary . Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.wfh-ofallon.com .
Arrangements entrusted to Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, Illinois.
