Obituary

Betty Jo Lindsay, nee McCarthy, age 93, formerly of O'Fallon, Ill., born April 2, 1930 in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away at her home at Garden Place Columbia, Ill., on October 6, 2023.

Betty Jo grew up and attended schools in East St. Louis. She worked for many years as an accounting clerk at Scott AFB. She was a parishioner at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O'Fallon, where she participated in Yesterday's Kids for many years. She also enjoyed her time with the Ancient Order of Hibernians Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society, and the St Clair County Women's Club. Betty Jo lived generously and loved her many friends. Her family was of utmost importance to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter in 1978; and her parents Charles and Ivy, nee DeArmond, McCarthy.

Surviving are her children Lisa Marie (Jim) Porter of O'Fallon, and Brian (Mary Ann) Lindsay of Madison, Ala.; her grandchildren Katherine (Christopher) Melzer, Christopher Porter, Nathan (Rebecca) Lindsay, Katie (Jeremy) Gargis, and Clay (Kaylie) Lindsay; her great-grandchildren Caroline and Margaret Lindsay, Penelope, Amelia, and Bentley Gargis, and Jay Lindsay; her brother Jerry (Joyce) McCarthy; brother-in-law Donald Lindsay; sister-in-law Sherran (Richard) Battas; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois and the staff at Garden Place Columbia for their extraordinary care of Betty Jo.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, and 9:30 -10:15 am, Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 625 St. Nicholas Dr., O'Fallon. The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians will conduct a ritual service at 5 pm, Thursday, at the funeral home.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Junker presiding. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill. Yesterday's Kids will conduct a walk-through at 10 am, Friday, at the church.
