Betty Frances Mensing, nee Lienesch, age 91, of O'Fallon,  born February 2, 1926 in St. Louis, Mo., died December 24, 2017 at The Heritage at The Colonnade, in O'Fallon, surrounded by her family.

Betty grew up in Shiloh Valley, and as a young woman, she worked for Boeing and at Scott Field during World War II. She also worked as a secretary at various medical offices. In 1944, she traveled to Fort Lewis Army Base near Seattle, Wash. to marry Eugene "Gene" Mensing, a young Army soldier who was preparing to depart for a war mission. Betty was a long-time volunteer and advocate for Family Hospice. She belonged to the League of Women Voters, served as an election judge, and was a member of Signal Hill Methodist Church. Betty traveled extensively around the world, and her favorite vacation was to Egypt. She enjoyed scuba diving, being at the beach, and loved her cats.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene; parents Ralph and Mabel, nee White, Lienesch; son Kenneth Mensing, infant son James Ralph Mensing; daughter-in-law Cheryl Mensing; granddaughter Heather Deterding; two great-grandchildren Michael Crockett and Kirsten Ledbetter; and two infant siblings.

Surviving are her three children Virginia Humphrey of Granite City, Ill., James Mensing of Belleville, and Yvonne (Bill) Hurckes of East Peoria, Ill.; daughter-in-law Hoa Mensing of Belleville; Grandchildren Roger (Tonya) Mensing, Ryan (Mary) Mensing, Kristina (Dack) Ledbetter, John (Linda Goddard) Humphrey, Jr., Leigh Ann Zupan, Shauna (Chris) Modrusic, Kimberly Wachtel, Brandon (Amy) Hurckes, Christopher (Ashley) Hurckes; 21 great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild, plus three babies on the way.

Memorial donations may be made to Family Hospice, Belleville Humane Society, or Alzheimer's Association.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, Wednesday, December 27, 2017, and from 10:00 – 11:00 am, Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon.

Funeral: 11:00 am, Thursday, December 28, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Shiloh Valley Township Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
