Obituary

Cornelius Stanley Bossler, age 89, lifelong resident of Shiloh, Ill., born August 17, 1928 at the family farm in Shiloh, passed away April 7, 2018.

Stanley grew up on the family farm and raised his family there amongst the orchards, wheat fields, and vegetable garden. He graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1947. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh Valley Grange, and the St. Clair County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends and spending time in his garden. All his life, he farmed wheat, soybeans, and corn, raised peaches, apples, cattle and hogs. He sold his fresh vegetables at the Bossler Produce Market and St. Louis farm stands. He worked hard on the farm, while his wife Marian, and their children all pitched in. They raised chickens and sold eggs, along with baling straw and hay. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and going to reunions with his "Army buddies." They volunteered at church functions and attended quilt and cash bingos. Mostly, above all else, he loved being with the grandchildren on the farm, teaching them to can tomato juice and sell produce.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Adela, nee Lehman, Bossler; his four siblings Armin "Hap" (Henrietta) Bossler, Richard (Irene) Bossler, Arnold Bossler and Virginia Bossler; his siblings-in-law Robert Haukapp, Ed Siegel, Larry (Edith) Siegel, Earl "Butch" (Lucille) Siegel, Paul (Loretta) Siegel, Erna Siegel, Norman (Cecilia) Siegel, George Siegel, Hank (Mary) Schwaegel, Bernard (Amelia) Schwaegel, Regine (Orville) Fournie, Pauline (Gregory) Holdener, and Lucy (Cyril) Weissert.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Marian, nee Siegel, Bossler, whom he married July 13, 1955 in Lebanon, Ill., his four children, Clyde (Linda) Bossler of O'Fallon, John (Nancy) Bossler of Highland, Margie (Dan) Thole of Aviston, and Arnold (Vivian) Bossler of New Baden; grandchildren Andy, Eric (fiancée Abby Winter), Melissa, Craig (Melissa Sellers), Matthew (Kayla) Thole, Michelle Thole, Jessika, Natalie, and Douglas; great-grandchild Brayden Thole, and step-great-grandchild Brooke Dulle; brother-in-law Joseph (Theresa) Siegel, and sister-in-law Rita Haukapp, and many nieces and nephews.
