Candace "Candy" Ann Magnuson of Lebanon, Illinois found peace in her Savior's loving arms on August 28, 2022.
Candy was born and raised in Portland, Oregon to the late Robert and Carol Chapman. She attended Reynolds High School and graduated from Eastern Oregon College in 1971 with a degree in Elementary Education.
She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend of 51 years, Larry Magnuson. She was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
As a military spouse who loved children, Candy was a dedicated teacher from 1971 to 2000 teaching in places such as Portland, Sacramento, Belleville, the Island of Guam, Montgomery, Ala., Valrico, Fla., Carterville, Ill., and San Antonio. She was passionate about education which she passed down to her children and grandchildren.
Candy had a rich social life and loved to host events such as her bridge and book clubs. She had wonderful lifelong friends with whom she was privileged to share many years of laughs and tears. Candy loved the adventure of traveling the world as a military spouse having moved 15 times over 30 years. She continued her love of adventure into retirement going on numerous trips and cruises with her friends and family as far west as New Zealand and Australia, and east to the Baltics. She was also an avid sports fan who always kept up with her favorite teams, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, she loved her family with her entire being. Her greatest delight was spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved immensely.
In addition to her husband, Candy is also survived by her two children: Chad (Heidi) Magnuson of Lakeland, Fla., and Robert (Kelley) Magnuson of Louisville, Ky.; three beloved granddaughters: Autumn, Haley and Paige; her brother William Chapman of Sun City, Ariz.; sister-in-law Coreen (Steve) Kraemer of Tigard, Ore., and brother-in-law Jay (Sharon) Magnuson of La Grande, Ore., as well as numerous nieces and nephews plus a great-great niece.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, Friday, September 2, 2022 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O'Fallon, with Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:30 am, with Father Thomas Lugge presiding. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
