Obituary

Carol Chalcraft, age 78, of O'Fallon, Ill., born July 7, 1944 in East Chicago, Ind., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday afternoon, November 3, 2022.

Carol grew up in Edwardsville, attended St. Boniface Grade School and graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1962. She further graduated from SIUE with a Special Education Teaching degree in 1970 and also did her post-graduate work there. She taught in the Wood River-East Alton School District, Denver Public Schools, San Antonio Public Schools, DOD Schools in Okinawa, Japan, Hampton, Va. Public Schools, DOD Schools in Ramstein Germany, Rialto Public Schools, Sacramento Public Schools, and finished her career in the O'Fallon, Illinois District 90 School System, teaching at Estelle Kampmeyer School, Marie Schaefer School, and Moye Elementary School.

She loved traveling, crafting, and searching for interesting gossip and stories on YouTube, and spending time with her husband Gregg, her daughters, grandchildren and her recently-arrived great grandchild. Carol and Gregg enjoyed international travel, having experienced over 25 cruiseship vacations.

She was preceded in death by her parents Aldred and Katherine, nee Walker, Knibb.

Surviving are her much beloved husband of nearly 54 years, Gregg L. Chalcraft, Jr. of O'Fallon; daughters Leslie (Seth) Wolter, Jessica (Arthur Muro) Chalcraft; grandchildren Sloane (Tayler) Wolter Geiger, Aidan Wolter, Oliver Muro, and great-grandchild August Wolter Geiger; sisters Kathleen, nee Knibb (Don) Lask of Edwardsville, and Margaret "Peggy," nee Knibb (Zach) Kaplan of Ft. Collins, Col.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, Illinois. A funeral service will begin at 7 pm, Tuesday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Lugge officiating.

The funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9 am, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 for a Graveside Service to begin at 9:45 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
