Obituary

Caroline M. Jarrell, nee Kult, 91, of Shiloh, Ill., born July 27, 1929, in Ashley, Ill., passed away peacefully at her home with loved ones by her side, on March 11, 2021.

Caroline was a loyal member of St Clare Catholic Church in O'Fallon, Ill. She and her husband Carl raised nine fun-loving, hardworking children.  In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she worked many years as a nursing home nurse's aide. Caroline enjoyed bingo, travel, Cardinal baseball, walking, fishing, and occasional trips to the casino.  She was an accomplished cook, housekeeper, caregiver, gardener, and mentor to many.  Caroline loved life, and enjoyed her faith, family, and friends.  She had a calming, engaging, and gracious personality which attracted others while eliminating detractors.  Caroline truly was the family matriarch, and she'll be sorely missed as her passing creates voids in so many lives.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Edward Jarrell, her parents Joseph Kult and Clara Kult, nee Deering, sons Ronald Jarrell, Garry Jarrell, granddaughter Stacy Jarrell, daughter in-law Michelle Jarrell, brothers Leonard Kult, Eugene Kult, Jerry Kult, Raymond Kult, and sisters Rosemary Minton, and Joan Niedzwiecki.

Survivors, with fond memories of her, include her children, sons Carl "Butch" (Cheryl) Jarrell of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; William (Karen) Jarrell of Riverside, Calif.; James (Corinna) Jarrell of O'Fallon Ill.; and daughters Cynthia (Steve) Karraker of Shiloh, Ill.; Diana Jarrell of Shiloh, Ill.; Judy (Robert "Bob") Shannon of Lebanon, Ill.; Kathy (Kenneth) Hurst of Channelview, Tex., and daughter in-law Lois Jarrell of Marine, Ill. Brothers Robert (Judy) Kult of Granite City, Ill.; Lee (Dotti) Kult of Lexington, Ky.; sisters Shirley (Mark) Holmes of Edwardsville, Ill.;  Patricia "Pat" (Larry) Kaburick of Carlinville, Ill.; grandchildren Missy, Lori, Jennifer, Brian, Jay, Steven, Mary, Tina, Brandon, Adam, Jasson, Richard, Robert, Katie, Kevin, Kyle, Kurt, and Courtney, their families, great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws,  and friends.

Condolences may be offered at www.wfh-ofallon.com . Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Clare Catholic Church and may be accepted at or mailed to the funeral home.
