Obituary

Catherine Ann Hastings, nee Shipton, age 81, of O'Fallon, Ill., born June 22, 1931, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Joseph and Annie, nee O'Hara, Shipton, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013.

Catherine grew up in East St. Louis and attended St. Phillip Grade School and Clark Jr. High, in the same neighborhood as her future husband, Robert Hastings, whom she married June 21, 1952, at St. Phillip Church. She worked at Bank of St. Louis and Charleston (South Carolina) Bank until her children were born. Then as a loving homemaker she devoted her time to the family. She attended St. Clare Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Sodality. Catherine enjoyed Friday night Fish Fries at O'Fallon VFW Post 805, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Cardinals baseball fan, enjoyed camping at Honeybend and Tievoli Hills campgrounds, and spending time with her family. She was the backbone of her family, providing strength and support, teaching her children they could do anything they put their minds to.

Mrs. Hastings was preceded in death by her parents, son Daniel Hastings, baby daughter Vicky Hastings, and her siblings Joseph Shipton, Terry Shipton, and Elizabeth Pohl.

Surviving are her husband Robert E. Hastings, daughter Karen (James) Swederska, of Union, Mo., son Jeffrey (Kelly) Hastings, of O'Fallon, son James (Debbie Miller) Hastings, of Colorado Springs, daughter Donna (Brian) Goodwin, of O'Fallon, and daughter Denise Hastings, of Belleville; and sister Margaret Huff, of Kansas City, Mo. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 805, or Belle Manor Assisted Living Community, where her daughter Denise resides.
