Centa Christensen
Kreszenz "Centa" Christensen, nee Dentinger, age 80, of O'Fallon, Ill., born July 2, 1928 in Munich, Germany, the oldest of seven children, passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville.
Centa moved to O'Fallon in 1973, when her husband's military career brought him and their family to Scott AFB from England. They met following World War II, during the Allied Occupation of Germany. They were married December 24, 1955 at Sembach, Germany. She was formally trained as a seamstress as a young woman in Germany. During her husband's military career, Centa volunteered with the Red Cross at various military installations. Since coming to the local area, she attended Shiloh United Methodist Church and volunteered at West Main Nursing Home in Mascoutah and the hospital at Scott AFB. She was instrumental in opening and operating the Country Estate Kennel in Shiloh and worked there, in addition to Christensen Dog Training, until her recent illness. She was a kind and caring woman, devoted to her husband's military service and raising her sons. She had an artistic talent, having received numerous accolades for her oil paintings, including the Blue Ribbon and Best of Show award at the St. Clair County Fair.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gunner Christensen, Senior Master Sergeant, USAF (retired), who died March 1, 2004; her parents Michael and Centa Dentinger; and her sister Friedel Westermeier.
She is survived by her two sons Michael Christensen of Collinsville; and Chris Christensen of O'Fallon; grandchildren Anna and Mary Christensen; sisters Anna Ertl, Chreistel, Rosie Wollny, and Liese Veihelmann all of Germany; and brother Michael Dentinger of Germany.
In honor of Mrs. Christensen, memorial donations may be made to Memorial Foundation c/o Memorial Hospital, in expression of the family's appreciation for the kindness and care shown to their mother.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 West Washington St., O'Fallon.
Funeral: Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2009 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home with Rev. Beverly Wilkes Null officiating. Interment alongside her husband will follow at 1:00 pm, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
