Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Leslie Bevirt, age 97, of O'Fallon, born October 10, 1925 in Belleville, Ill., to Leslie Sparks Bevirt and Irene Emma, nee Schaefer, Bevirt, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 at his home at The Colonnade with his wife and children by his side. Charlie leaves behind family and friends who are forever grateful for his friendship and loving influence on their lives.

Charlie was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from 1943-46, and was discharged as PHM3. He was a 70+ year member of Carpenters Local 622, and a 60+ year member of both the A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge #576, and Eastern Star O'Fallon Chapter 487. Charlie was a member of the O'Fallon United Church of Christ, O'Fallon Sportsman's Club, O'Fallon Historical Society, Past-President of O'Fallon Senior Citizens Club, and numerous pinochle card clubs. He was O'Fallon Township Monitor, Meals on Wheels volunteer, recipient of Honor Flight and Quilt of Valor. In the late 80s/early 90s, along with Mary Helen, he owned and operated "Custom Frames by Charles." Charlie loved to fish and camp with his family and friends. He supported O'Fallon Boy Scout Troop #94's camping trips and paper drives. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan! He enjoyed his Tuesday breakfast with the guys.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Clendenin; brother-in-law Dan Clendenin, sister Alice Hallam, brother-in-law William "Bill" Hallam, sister-in-law Joan, nee Horn, Cavins; niece Becky, nee Hallam, Thorton; nephew Doug Clendenin; and great-niece Christy Hammond.

Surviving are his wife Mary Helen, nee Horn, Bevirt; his children Jeffrey (Diana) Bevirt, Garrell (Rudolph Ballentine) Bevirt, Joan (Kathy) Bevirt; grandchildren Mary Beth (Dan) Hutson, Jennifer (Brad) Mersinger, Neal (Amelia) Bevirt, Dan (Amanda) and Chris (Mattie) Chamblin, McKenzie (Lang Suby) Bevirt, Maggie (Joe) Lee, Tim (Anna Dellamano) Burke, Jennifer Huda; great-grandchildren Jackson Lander, Nova and Marlee Suby, Ryan and Emma Mersinger, Max Bevirt, Logan Greene, Mason, Charlotte, Lucy Chamblin, Briar Lee, Evelyn, Samuel and Charles Hutson; Sofia Huda; brother-in-law Ronald Cavins; and many generations of special nephews and nieces.

Visitation: A Masonic Service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at O'Fallon United Church of Christ, followed by a tribute by the O'Fallon Senior Citizens. Public visitation will continue at the church.

Funeral Services: 12:30 pm, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at O'Fallon United Church of Christ, with Rev. Tarrah Vaupel officiating. Navy honors will be rendered. Due to street construction near the church, please be patient and allow extra time for parking. The family asks you not to let the inconvenience of the construction deter your visit.
