Obituary

Charles Francis "Murph" Murphy, age 90, of O'Fallon, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006 at his home. Chuck was born to Thomas P. and Gertrude E. (nee Paulman) Murphy on April 20, 1916 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

He was a Navy veteran, serving as a Seabee in WWII and the Korean Conflict. Charles married Helen Bindics on January 2, 1943 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Charles joined the Knights of Columbus in December 1958. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with KC Council 4239 and held various statewide official positions over the years. Charles became a charter member of Assembly 1829 in March 1960. He was Grand Knight from 1965-67 and Faithful Navigator 1982-83. Being proud of his Irish Catholic heritage, he was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a longtime faithful member of St Clare Catholic Church, the O'Fallon Senior Citizens Club, and the Fraternal Order of Shiloh Eagles. Chuck had coached American Legion baseball in O'Fallon for many years and was past Scout Master for Boy Scouts. He retired in 1979 after more than 30 years in Civil Service.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Murphy, of O'Fallon; son Charles T. (Sharon) Murphy of Belleville; daughter Charleen (Kevin) Vernier of O'Fallon; and his very special grandson, Justin Vernier, of whom his grandpa was very proud; and one sister, Helen Andrew of Bethlehem, PA.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Thomas and Robert.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at St Clare Catholic Church, O'Fallon. The O'Fallon Senior Citizens Club will conduct a walk-through at 4:30 pm. The Ancient Order of Hibernians will conduct a walk-through at 6:30 pm. A Knights of Columbus Chalice Ceremony will be held at 7:00 pm. at the church.

Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at St Clare Catholic Church, with Msgr. Donald Eichenseer presiding.
Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, IL
