Charles Shelton "Shelly" Whobrey, age 96, of O'Fallon, Ill., born June 18, 1922 in O'Fallon, passed away Friday morning, July 6, 2018 at his home.

Shelly grew up in O'Fallon, graduating from O'Fallon Township High School in 1940. He graduated from Rankin Trade School and worked as a machinist and tool and die maker. He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Nicholas Catholic Church and had previously been active with Yesterday's Kids. Together with his wife, Florine, they enjoyed working in their vegetable garden.

Shelly was a quiet and humble man, faith-filled, and devoted to his family, especially Florine, his wife of 71 years whom he married November 19, 1946 at St. Clare Church in O'Fallon. Next  to his family, his greatest love was the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. We will miss him deeply, especially his laugh and sense of humor.

Memorial donations will be accepted at the funeral home, and are suggested to St. Nicholas Catholic Church or American Heart Association.

He was preceded in death by parents William Carey Whobrey and Jesse, nee Bell, Whobrey; and his sisters Mildred Funk and Delores Adrian.

Surviving are his beloved wife Florine, nee Reno, Whobrey; his daughters Carol (Corky) Mauchline of O'Fallon, and Linda (Donald) Zedrow of Montgomery, Ill., his grandchildren Kelly Estes, and Matthew, Joel, and Patrick Zedrow; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 5:00 – 8:00 pm, Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon.

Funeral:  Procession will depart the funeral home at 9:45 am, Monday, July 9, 2018 for a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:00 am, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 625 St. Nicholas St., O'Fallon. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
