Cheryl Bertrand Mensing, age 55, of Belleville, born November 8, 1957 in Forrest City, Ark., was called home Sunday evening, August 11, 2013, following a brief illness.
Cheryl grew up in O'Fallon, attended St. Clare Catholic School and OTHS. She was a veteran of the US Air Force, trained as a computer operator, serving from 1981-1987, earning numerous recognitions including the Air Force Commendation and Achievement Medals. She graduated from LSU, worked several years for Union Pacific and also as a computer operator manager for Verizon Wireless.
She was devoted to caring for her kids, always compassionate and fair, enjoyed crocheting and was a fan of Tom Petty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley, nee Henard, Bertrand and Henry Bertrand, Sr.; and her step-daughter Heather, nee Mensing, Deterding.
She is survived by her husband James David Mensing, of Belleville, daughters Sara (Scott Rausch) Goldsmith of Charlottesville, Va., and Laura Goldsmith of Cairo, Ill., step-daughter Kim Wachtel of Freeburg, Ill., siblings Amy, nee Bertrand, Copeland of Glen Carbon, Ill., Donna (James) Brandmeyer of Collinsville, Ill., Henry Bertrand, Jr., of Collinsville, Ill., Rose (Billy) Hatley of Glen Carbon, Ill., four grandchildren Maddox, Nolan, Violet, and Alexander, and many others of her large, loving extended family.
Memorial donations are suggested to American Liver Foundation or Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation.
