Obituary

Clarance Allen Ingles, age 90, of O'Fallon, Ill., born September 10, 1933 in Sorento, Ill., passed away January 2, 2024 following a brief illness.

Clarance grew up in Odin, Ill., and ran his own newspaper delivery service and worked as a church janitor as a very young teenager. This helped him to earn his own money which led him to buying his first guitar. He was self-taught on the guitar, mandolin and slide guitar and was known throughout his community for his love of gospel music. He often sang with his late wife Marva at area festivals. He met Marva while he was living in Prescott, Ariz.; they married in 1960 and moved to O'Fallon in 1966. They made a loving home where they raised three children and created many wonderful memories. Clarance worked at Scott AFB in the Accounting Department as a civil servant. He was a proud Navy veteran serving 1959 – 63 aboard the USS Howard W Gilmore.

Clarance's faith was very important to him. He was a longtime member, treasurer, and deacon at O'Fallon First Assembly of God, then later Belleville First Assembly of God where he sang in the church choir with his wife and daughter, and since 1995, was a vital part of the Crossview Church family in O'Fallon.

Clarance graduated from SIU Carbondale, was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. He read his Bible daily and enjoyed the sweets from his friends at Wood Bakery. Clarance was a familiar face around town with his newspaper route and as a delivery driver for La Rosa's Floral Shop for many years.

Clarance was preceded in death by his wife Marva; infant daughter Margaret Jean; siblings Roy (MaryAnn) Ingles, Burl (Shirley) Ingles, Delton Ingles, Nigel (Ed) Wilcoxson, and Veronica (Ike) Lovvorn.

Surviving are his children Mary Shaffer of O'Fallon, Jim (Cindy) Ingles of Crestwood, Mo., and Joe (Kassie) Ingles of Covington, Ga.; grandchildren Dan (Evet) Shaffer, Patty (Brent) Williams, Alicia Shaffer, Claire Ingles, Elyssia (AJ) Pribbles, Justin (Taylor) Ingles, Devin (Alyssa) Ingles, Brayton (Kimberly) Ingles; great-grandchildren Mattea, Zion, Asa, Isaac, Alexei, Brennan, Ava, Capri, DesRae, Elaine, Ezekiel, Eden, Ezra; and brother Tom (Theresa) Ingles of Sandoval, Ill.
