Danny Carlton Witt, age 67, of O'Fallon, born January 19, 1955 in East St. Louis, Ill., died June 12, 2022 as a result of a tragic accident.
Danny had worked as a Pathologist Assistant at St. Elizabeth Hospital for nearly 43 years, retiring in 2018, and was a deputy coroner for St. Clair County. Danny was a proud US Army Infantryman, serving 1975-81, and was an expert rifle sharpshooter. Danny was an avid golfer and deer hunter, and enjoyed attending the grandkids' sporting events and traveling with Janet.
Dan was elected to the O'Fallon City Council in 2017 and served with integrity as a Ward 7 Alderman. He was also Chair of the Public Works Committee and member of O'Fallon Boosters Board of Directors. Danny contributed in various other ways to the betterment of the community of O'Fallon. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Metro East Lodge 262, Swansea Moose Lodge 1221, and American Legion Post 137.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Floy, nee Cathers, Witt; his siblings Billy Lee Witt, Martha Lee Witt Goldsmith, Jerry L. Witt, parents-in-law Waldo "Pete" and Wilma Ponder, brother-in-law Carl Wright and sister-in-law Marilyn Nance.
Surviving are his wife Janet Denise, nee Ponder, Witt; son Jeffrey (fiancé Sara) Witt of Beckemeyer, Ill., daughter Melanie (Chris) Nesbit of Shiloh; grandchildren Kylee and Haylee Nesbit and Gavin Curry; siblings Barbara Witt of Fairview Heights, Tiller (Karen) Witt of Belmont, Ohio; Eddie (Tina) Witt of Troy, Ill., Carla Witt Wright of Fairview Heights, and brother-in-law Ronnie Goldsmith of N.C., and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation: 3-8 pm, Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon. Doors will open at 3 pm.
Funeral: 11 am, Monday, June 20, 2022 at O'Fallon First Baptist Church, 1111 E. Highway 50, O'Fallon, with visitation one hour prior.
