Obituary

David Lee Ashmann, age 81, of Caseyville, Ill., born September 17, 1932 in Collinsville, Ill., passed away Wednesday morning, April 9, 2014 at his home.

David grew up in Collinsville and had retired as a train engineer from Norfolk & Western. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated Ashmann Excavating, in Collinsville for over 25 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed turkey and big-game hunting, and organizing hunting trips and wild game feeds for area hunters. He loved bass fishing, was a member of the Belleville BASS Club, and long-time member of Collinsville Recreation Club where he was a past board member. His children have wonderful memories of being outdoors with their father-- fishing, camping, and boating. David and his wife had spent the winters in Kenansville, Florida for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his father Bernard Ashmann, mother Dorothy Mae Turner Ashmann, and his sister Patricia Torrez.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Margaret, nee Hilmes, Ashmann, of Caseyville; children Kathleen (Jeffrey) Wilshire of Maryville; David "Butch" Ashmann of Collinsville, and Lance (Karie) Ashmann of Maryville; six grandchildren Matthew (Rebecca) Wilshire, Tony (Laura) Wilshire, Amelia and MariBeth Ashmann, and Katlyn and Kassidy Ashmann; two great-grandchildren, and his sister Joyce Kebel of Mascoutah.

Memorial donations are kindly suggested to St. Clare Catholic Church Building Fund or Shriner's Hospital.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.

Visitation will continue at 9:30 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2014, at St. Clare Catholic Church, Shiloh.

Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Clare Catholic Church, Shiloh, with Rev. James Deiters presiding.
