Obituary

David Howe Martin, age 60, of O'Fallon, born March 15, 1957 in San Diego, Calif., the oldest of seven children, died January 25, 2018.

He was a former volunteer firefighter and a longtime paramedic. David was employed by Simmons and Lifeforce EMS services, among others in the surrounding community. He was one of the charter employees with City of O'Fallon EMS and was on their first-ever 911 response. He enjoyed his work with EMS and took great pride in his work, becoming a nationally-registered paramedic. Additionally, he was a regional field training officer and certified instructor.

He was preceded in death by his father John Michael "Mike" Martin; and his brother Joe Martin.

David was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Surviving are his daughter Jenny Martin and his son Stephen Walters, of O'Fallon; his mother Helen (nee Howe) Martin of O'Fallon; his siblings Phyllis (Robert) Patten of O'Fallon, Kathleen (Richard Strassel) Martin of Morro Bay, Calif., Sheila (Robert) Rapp of O'Fallon, Theresa (Tom) Gentle of St. Michael, Minn., and Margaret (Don) Rose of St. Charles, Mo.; 11 nieces and nephews Grace (Branden) Neeley and Natalie, Juliann, and Charles; Keith (Kacey) Patten and Jovie; Elaine (Geoffrey) Tabor; Jeanine (Josh) Carlson-Nelson and Liam and Leif; Dylan (Kiara) Martin; Chris (Meghan) Rapp; Jake (Mollie) Rapp and Owen and Mabry; Tommy Gentle; Cecilia Gentle; Sam Gentle, and Luke Gentle; loving cousins, friends and valued colleagues.

David was very family oriented and found immense joy in spending time with his 8 great nieces and nephews. He showed his love for his family by sharing his expertise and passion for cars whenever needed. David attended all family events and made sure to show up with impeccable style.

David and his family were always appreciative of the medical care he received, and were grateful to his doctors and medical staff who cared for him over the years.

Memorial donations are suggested to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, January 29, 2018 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, and from 9:00 – 9:45 am, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh. O'Fallon EMS will conduct a walk-through at 6:30 pm, Monday, at the funeral home.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, with Rev. Roger Karban presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
