Diann Murray

December 29, 1943 — March 7, 2026

formerly of St. Louis

Diann Murray, age 82, formerly of St. Louis, Mo. and most recently of O’Fallon, Ill., passed away peacefully. Diann grew up and raised her family in St. Louis before making her home in O’Fallon for the past 30 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Brawley and her husband, Paul Brawley, and Kim Pate and her husband, Doug Pate. She was a proud grandmother to Nathan Brawley, Taylor Brawley, Jordan Thoele and her husband, Mike Thoele, Carson Pate and Megan, Danyelle Cherry and her husband Dylan Cherry. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Ellie Thoele, Kinlee Thoele, and Jameson Harrell, who brought her great joy. Diann is also survived by her younger brother, Glennon Waeckerle and by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her older brothers, Ron Waeckerle and Gordon Waeckerle.

Diann spent much of her career working as an administrative assistant, a role that suited her perfectly thanks to her sharp attention to detail and love of proper grammar. Friends and family often turned to her when something needed proofreading, and she was always happy to help make sure every word was just right.

She had a lifelong love of reading and enjoyed keeping up with current events, often watching news programs and discussing what was happening in the world. Musical theatre was another passion of hers, and she appreciated the energy and storytelling that live performances brought to life. She especially loved Saturday afternoons at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.

Diann treasured time with her family. Some of her happiest memories were made on camping and boating trips. She also insisted, much to everyone’s amusement, that she could still play volleyball and water ski well beyond the age most people would consider safe.

A woman of deep faith, Diann was a devoted Catholic who believed strongly in the power of prayer. Her generosity extended beyond her family to others in need, and she supported charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and the American Red Cross.

Those close to her remember another of Diann’s endearing habits: she saved newspapers, magazines, and articles with the intention of reading them someday. She was certain she would eventually get around to all of them—though, like many of us, she never quite did.

Above all, Diann was generous with her love and time. She especially cherished her grandchildren and, in recent years, her great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy.

She will be remembered for her intelligence, her faith, her humor, and the deep love she shared with her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will remain with those who loved her.

A celebration of Life Luncheon will be held from Noon – 3 pm, Saturday, April 18, 2026, at The Lodge at Grant’s Trail, 4398 Hoffmeister Ave., St. Louis, MO 63125.
