Donald Taylor Dickson, age 94, of O'Fallon, born October 24, 1923 in rural McLean County, Ill., passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018.
Don grew up in McLean Co., Ill., and enlisted in the Army Air Corps upon high school graduation. He served in Germany and Italy in the 556th Bomb Group as a radio operator and nose gunner on the B-24 Liberator during World War II, and was awarded three Bronze Stars and three Air Medals. He continued to serve his country in the Air Force until 1965, and then with General Services Administration, until 1985. Upon retirement, Don enjoyed golfing and travelling throughout the U.S., especially spending time in Tunica, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dora, nee Taylor, Dickson; and five siblings.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Bertie Lee, nee George, Dickson of O'Fallon; his daughter Kathie (Ken) Johnson of Decatur; his son Kirk Dickson of O'Fallon; five grandchildren Jeff (Kara) Johnson, Scott Johnson, Crystal Deterding, Beth Moonier, and Tyson (Heather) Moonier; seven great-grandchildren Alexandra, Grace, and Levi Johnson, Jessie and Emme Deterding, and Shay and Lana Moonier; brother John Dickson and sister Florence Otto.
Memorial donations are suggested to either Alzheimer's Association or Heartland Hospice, and may be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, Ill.
Funeral: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Ill.
