Arthur Donald Fohne, age 82, lifelong resident of O'Fallon, born June 16, 1931 in O'Fallon Township, passed away Tuesday evening, September 10, 2013, at Cedar Ridge Health Care, Lebanon, Ill.
Don grew up in O'Fallon Township on the family farm, northeast of town, and graduated from OTHS in 1948. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Brown Business School and worked as a controller for Old Vienna. He was a charter member of O'Fallon Knights of Columbus Council #4239, a member of O'Fallon Senior Citizens Club. Don was a parishioner at St. Nicholas Catholic Church and former parishioner of St. Clare Catholic Church. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, traveling, and polka dancing and waltzing.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Edgar Charles Fohne and Louisa Marie, nee Dressel, Fohne; his first wife, Dorothy L., nee Schiefer, Fohne, and his brother Alvin (Josephine) Fohne.
Surviving are his wife, Arline, nee Niehaus, Fohne, whom he married June 12, 1999; his daughter Karen (Patrick) Osuchowski of Troy; step-children, Gary (Debbie) Fohne of O'Fallon, Donna (Duane) Albers of Breese, Dianne (Steve) Morton of Cape Coral, Fla., Mary (John) Cornell of Lebanon, Sharon (Jerry) Buckley of Fairview Heights; step-grandchildren Adam (Renae) Poole, Christopher Albers, Andrea and Megan Fohne, Olivia (Matt) Jobes, Daisy and Melody Cornell, and Erica Buckley; and a step-great-granddaughter Tessa. Also surviving are his nieces Rosemary (Harry) Vink and Gloria (Russ) Arentsen.
Memorial donations are suggested to Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, VNA-TIP Hospice, or in the form of Masses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home. The O'Fallon Senior Citizens will conduct a walk-through at 6:30 pm, Sunday, at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: Procession will depart the funeral home 9:45 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2013 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O'Fallon, with Msgr. William J. Hitpas presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
