Donald G. Thompson of O'Fallon, Ill., born March 19, 1924 in Clarion, Penna., formerly of Cleveland, Ohio and Sarasota, Fla. left this earth February 28, 2010 surrounded by his family. Don was a member of "The Greatest Generation." He enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17. He fought during World War II, and although he talked very little about it, was very proud of his service to his country. After the war, Don worked for Consolidated Cigar as a salesman until his retirement in 1987. Don spent most of his retirement years in Sarasota before he moved to O'Fallon to be closer to his family. He will be truly missed by all who knew him, including his extended family at Cambridge House of O'Fallon and the O'Fallon YMCA. Don was also an avid Cardinals fan.
Don was preceded in death by his three wives, Marion (Aldridge), Kathryn (Regnery), and Doris (Eifert) Thompson, by his parents James Lindsey and Freda Mae, nee Gorsuch, Thompson, one brother and two sisters.
Surviving are his stepsons Joel (JoAnn) Regnery of O'Fallon, Ill., Patrick (Bonnie) Regnery of Warren, Ohio, Mike (Gail) Regnery of St. Louis, stepdaughters Betsy (Bill) Burick of Warren, Ohio, Karen (Bill) Iwanicki of The Villages, Fla., and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Don's wishes, his ashes will be buried with his first wife in Warren, Ohio.
