Donald Carl Weissert, 87, of Belleville, born June 15, 1936 to Clara, nee Peach, and Edwin Weissert, Sr., passed away June 5, 2024 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Don grew up on a farm, one of eleven children. He enlisted in the Air Force soon after graduating from high school and was assigned to the 96th Air Refueling Squadron at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma. A veteran of the Korean War, he served on active duty for 4 years and remained in the AF Reserves through 1962. Don had a long career as a switchman with CSX Railroad. One of his favorite pastimes was working in the garage. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Henry Catholic Church in Belleville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael, daughter Kimberly, and six siblings.
He is survived by his daughter Donna (Bruce) Campbell, sons Donald Paul Weissert and Randall E. Weissert; grandchildren Matthew (Leah) Bovinette, Tanya (Kyle) Koelker, Jessica (Caleb) Thompson, Andrew C. Weissert, Jessica Renee Allison Walz, Randall G. Weissert, Michael (Erin) Weissert, Christopher Weissert, Ashley (Nathan) Valdez, Kevin (Amanda) Miller, and Kyle Miller. Also surviving are his siblings Margaret (Tom) Madura, Mary Ellen (Freddy) Trebelcock, JoAnn (Gene) Hyatt, and Jenny Remelius.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm, Monday, June 10, 2024 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, and one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at St. Henry Catholic Church, 5315 W. Main St., Belleville, Ill., with Rev. Kenneth York presiding. Air Force honors will be rendered at the church.
Graveside Service will be at 10 am, Monday, June 17, 2024 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, Ill.
