Doris I. Schaepperkoetter, nee Luhning, age 89, longtime resident of Shiloh, born February 23, 1919, in Edgemont Station, Ill., passed away Sunday morning, January 11, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville.

Doris moved to Shiloh after her marriage and remained there for most of her life. She was a former member of Mascoutah Sportsmens' Club. Doris enjoyed gardening, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and loved wildlife, as was evident by the many animals in and around her yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Alfred L. Schaepperkoetter, whom she married December 12, 1938 and who passed away August 29, 1999; her parents who died when she was an infant, her grandparents Fred and Carolina Kuhlow who raised her, her brother William Luhning, daughter Joyce Mohr, grandson George Kiefer, Jr., and great-niece Christina Mohr.

She is survived by her children Pat (Bob) Sugg of Lebanon, Carol Kiefer of Shiloh, Alfred (Penny) Schaepperkoetter of Shiloh, Edward Schaepperkoetter of Venedy, Ill., her stepdaughter Annilene (Robert) Isselhardt of Waterloo, Ill; her son-in-law Jerry Mohr, Sr., her former son-in-law George Kiefer of Shiloh, and former daughter-in-law Debbie Kvale-Schaepperkoetter of St. Libory, Ill. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Memorials in honor of Mrs. Schaepperkoetter are requested to Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.

Funeral: A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Valley Township Cemetery.
