Obituary

Dorothy Ethel, nee Barton, Drummond, age 105, formerly of Springfield, Ill., passed away Wednesday morning, December 3, 2014 at the Auburn Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Auburn, Ill.

Dorothy was born July 28, 1909 in East St. Louis, Ill., to Conrad and Sophia, nee Kelly, Barton. She grew up on a ten-acre farm near Irondale, Mo. She loved basketball and excelled on the varsity team all four years at the Leadwood High School.

She married Bernard Drummond on July 4, 1932, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, Ill., and to this union, seven children were born and they resided in St. Louis, Mo. Following Bernard's death in 1962, and with three children still at home, she entered the work force in St. Louis and in 1972, relocated to Springfield, Ill., and worked in the Sangamon County Recorder's Office for the next eighteen years, retiring at the age of 85.

Dorothy was a strong person who gave up driving on her 100th birthday and developed beautiful flowers for her landscaping in her yard which she tended until the age of 104.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard, two sons Bernard and William; her parents, four brothers, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her children Robert (Bonnie) of Lake St. Louis, Mo., John (Mary) of Leasburg, Mo., Tom (Patricia) of Fenton, Mo., Mary Ann Lamm of Springfield, Ill., and Virginia (Warren) Kepp, of Springfield, Ill., daughters-in-law Rose Jean Drummond of Kansas City, Mo., and Janet Drummond of Potosi, Mo., 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30 – 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 205 Rasp St., Shiloh, Ill.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the church, with Msgr. James Margason presiding. Burial will be at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
