Dorothy E. Obernuefemann (nee Cocker), age 94, of Greenville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home, Greenville. Dorothy was born February 27, 1912, in Saint Louis, Missouri to Herbert & Corine (nee Boothe) Cocker, the oldest of eight children. She lived most of her life in O'Fallon, Illinois and moved to Keyesport, Illinois upon the death of her husband Henry in 1982. She was a member of Keyesport Senior Citizens, Royal Neighbors, the Monday & Thursday Pinochle Club, and St. Theresa Catholic Church in Marydale, Illinois, and a former member of St. Clare Catholic Church in O'Fallon. Dorothy was a kind and loving mother; she loved to crochet and was rarely found without her crochet hooks in hand. She often crocheted gifts for friends and had created a mantle piece for the church altar. She was a talented seamstress and had previously worked at Martha Manning Dress Shop in Collinsville. She also worked for many years as a nursing attendant at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville.
She is survived by her daughter Genevieve (Ronald) Elliott of Keyesport; cousin Jean Conrey of Missouri and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many special caregivers and friends, especially Deacon John Hempen and his wife, Kim and daughter Anna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Maurice Cocker, John Cocker, Charles Cocker, Maxine Blaney, Viola Harsy, Rosemary Woodson, and Sylvia Langford
Visitation: Friends may call after 9:30 am, Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St. at Lincoln, O'Fallon.
Funeral Service: Procession will depart the funeral home at 10:45 am, Tuesday for a 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Clare Catholic Church, O'Fallon, with Rev. James Deiters presiding.
Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
Memorial Donations in honor of Mrs. Dorothy Obernuefemann may be made to the charity of choice.
