Edith Ruth Hock, age 100, born December 1, 1923 in Trenton, Ill., to Daniel and Frieda, nee Berger, Hirstein, passed away March 9, 2024 at Cedar Ridge Healthcare, Lebanon, Ill.
Edith was a faithful parishioner at St. Clare Catholic Church, where she participated in the Quilters' Club. She was a past Girl Scout leader and a member of the St. Clair County Genealogical Society and the Retired Teachers Club of District 90. She was a loving stay-at-home mom to her daughters until she returned to college at the age of 42 to obtain her teaching degree. She taught in O'Fallon's District 90 for 20 years. Edith never met a stranger. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafting, camping, and fishing. Edith lived a long life, full of travel, education, and adventure.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lawrence George Hock; son-in-law Earl Ebel; granddaughter Jennifer Lippert; sister Ethel (Ralph) Bridges; and brother Gerald Hirstein.
Surviving are her daughters Jean Ebel of Belleville, Joyce (Paul) Mills of Granite City; grandchildren Nicole (Michael) White of Apache Jct., Ariz., Christine (Joseph) Lombardi of Edwardsville, David Mills of Collinsville, Douglas (Christine) Mills of St. Charles, Mo., John (Sherry) Mills of Glen Carbon, Julie (Gregory) Goin of Edwardsville, and Laura (Derrick) Lebryk of Shiloh; great-grandchildren Courtney (Dario) Jones, Jennifer (James) Barrett, Jesse White, Ben, Anna, and Max Lombardi, Reese, Blake, Dean, and Jenna Mills, Natalie and Lydia Mills, Zach, Emily, and Sam Goin, and Emma Lebryk; and great-great grandchildren Brayden Barrett, Brialeigh Barrett, Charlotte Barrett, and Camden Barrett; sister-in-law Val Hirstein; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at St. Clare Catholic Church from 9:30 – 11 am, Saturday, April 27, 2024, followed by a Mass to be celebrated at 11 am, with Rev. Jim Deiters officiating. In keeping with Edith's generous spirit, her body was gifted to St. Louis University School of Medicine.
