Obituary

Edward Fields Kloustermeyer, age 58, lifelong resident of O'Fallon, Ill., born September 24, 1951, passed away December. 14, 2009 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.

Ed grew up in O'Fallon, attending St. Clare Catholic Grade School, and Althoff High School, graduating in 1969. He was the lead bugler in the Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp. He earned his BA in History and Teaching Certificate from McKendree College. He taught at St. Clare Catholic Grade School from 1973 – 1989, and served as Asst. Principal during his final years there. Seeking a career change, he earned his Nursing Degree from Lutheran School of Nursing in 1991, and began his nursing career at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He also worked at BJC Home Care Services and VNA Hospice, until his retirement in 2003.

Ed's gift of voice was shared through his participation as a music cantor and in the St. Clare Church Celebration Choir; he was the second ever Choir Director at St. Clare Church. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity and former member of Knights of Columbus Council #4239. Ed contributed to the community in many ways over the years, including serving as Santa Claus for several years in the 1970's. Ed's kindness to his family and friends will not soon be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Fields Kloustermeyer and Katherine Geraldine, nee Hemmer, Kloustermeyer.

He is survived by his devoted wife Donna, nee Schachner, Kloustermeyer; two sons, Brian and Bradley Kloustermeyer; brother James Richard "Rick" (Kathy) Davis of St. Charles, Mo.; sister Patricia (Gilbert) Vollmer of O'Fallon; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Clara Schachner,of O'Fallon, Sisters-in-law Cheryl (Mike) Mennerick, of O'Fallon, and Barbara (James) Haider, of O'Fallon, nieces and nephews and many friends and extended family members.

Memorials be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Clare Catholic Church Building Fund, American Diabetes Association or in the form of masses. Condolences may be extended to the family by visiting www.wfh-ofallon.com.

All services will be at St. Clare Catholic Church.

Visitation: Friends may call 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 and from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009 at St. Clare Catholic Church, 1411 Cross Street, Shiloh.

Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009 at St. Clare Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh.
