L. Edward Pfeiffer, age 88, of O'Fallon, Illinois, passed away Friday, January 12, 2007 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. Edward was born to Lester and Louise (nee Adelsberger) Pfeiffer on August 1, 1918 in Belleville, Illinois. Edward was a devoted, longtime volunteer of many organizations, particularly St. Vincent de Paul and Catholic Urban Program. He was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a World War II Veteran of the Army and Air Force, a member of American Legion Post 137, AARP, O'Fallon Township Senior Citizens, and a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #592. Ed worked at First National Bank in E. St. Louis for almost 40 years, until his retirement in 1981. He was a generous and loving father to his six children; they returned that love, care and respect to him.


He is survived by his wife Idamay (nee Turner) Pfeiffer whom he married June 24, 1947 at St. Elizabeth Church in East St. Louis; his daughter Linda (James) Macke of Swansea, sons James Pfeiffer of Granite City, Paul Pfeiffer of O'Fallon, and John (Nancy) Pfeiffer of Belleville, and William Pfeiffer of O'Fallon. Also surviving are brother Charles (Doris) Pfeiffer of Belleville, sisters Myrtle Beuckman of O'Fallon, and Thelma Moore of Fairview Heights; grandchildren Brian Macke of Austin, TX; Jared Macke, Eric Macke, Laura Macke, Edward (Cassidae) Pfeiffer and Elizabeth (fiance Matt Morris) Pfeiffer; and three great granddaughters, Zoé, Morgan & Olivia Pfeiffer.

Mr. Pfeiffer was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Margaret Pfeiffer, brothers-in-law Florian Beuckman and Aubrey Moore, and nephew Michael Moore.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home. The O'Fallon Twp Senior Citizens will conduct a walk-through at 6:30 pm.

Funeral Service: Procession will depart the funeral home at 9:45 am, for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at St. Clare Catholic Church, O'Fallon, with Rev. James Deiters presiding.

Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville.

Memorial Donations are requested to St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Urban Program, or St. Clare Catholic Church and will be accepted at Wolfersberger Funeral Home.
