Elda V. Scheibel, nee Keck, age 102, formerly of O'Fallon, Ill., born November 13, 1918 in O'Fallon Township, Ill., died peacefully at the home of her daughter on Sunday, January 3, 2021.

Mrs. Scheibel was a homemaker and a faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She enjoyed her time in Senior Citizens of O'Fallon and St. Nicholas Church's Yesterday's Kids.

Mrs. Scheibel was preceded in death by her husband Cyril Scheibel, who died in 1988, after 49 years of marriage; parents Henry and Anna, nee Kaufman, Keck, and brothers Melvin and Orval Keck.

She is survived by her daughter Joan (Dean) Reaka of Troy, Mo. and son Ken (Carolyn) Scheibel of O'Fallon, Ill., 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call;
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way;
I found that place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss;
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much;
Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.

Perhaps my time seems all to brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church,  O'Fallon, Ill., with Msgr. William Hitpas presiding. Private graveside service will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill.
