Obituary

Ethel Ann Sommer, nee Wortmann, age 78, born April 19, 1934, in Josephville, Mo., the oldest of fourteen children, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2013.

Ethel was an avid flower gardener and talented seamstress and quilter. She had a deep Catholic faith that she shared with her family. She had been a 4-H leader for several years, sharing her talent for sewing with many young girls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Herman and Evelyn, nee Hemmer, Wortmann, and her younger brother William.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Sylvester Sommer, of Wentzville, Mo., whom she married November 10, 1956, in Josephville, Mo.; her four children, Cheryl (Mike Lampe) Sommer of O'Fallon, Ill., Wayne Sommer of Denver, Colo., Joyce (Kent) Monnig of Glasgow, Mo., and Julie Bartel of Columbia, Mo.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Joseph, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Nathan, and Marianne Lampe; Georgie Sommer, Grant, Jenna, and Joel Monnig; and Heather and Landon Bartel; and her twelve brothers and sisters.

Memorial donations in memory of Ethel are suggested to the family, to be contributed to various educational scholarships.

Visitation: 1:00 – 4:00 pm, Friday, February 22, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Wentzville, Mo. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 pm. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 23, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Wentzville, Mo., with Rev. Don Glastetter presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
