Obituary
Evelyn L. Bertram, nee Hangsleben, age 91, of O'Fallon, born March 8, 1924 in O'Fallon, passed away, Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Illinois.
She was a neat and organized person and her home and yard reflected these traits. Well into her 80's, after her husband passed away, she was cutting her grass and taking care of her lawn. She was an excellent homemaker and wonderful cook, specializing in delicious pies and cookies. Evelyn enjoyed card games, bingo and board games, but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She worked as a cook at Marie Schaefer Grade School in O'Fallon and at the Scott Air Force Base Golf Course.
Later in her adult life she received her high school GED, which she was very proud of.
She was a member of the O'Fallon United Church of Christ.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Stella, nee Wiemann, Hangsleben, her husband, Morris J. Bertram, whom she married on June 13, 1942 and celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 13, 1992. Morris passed away February 3, 1993. She is also preceded in death by her son, James E. Bertram, who passed away in 1989, four brothers, Wesley, Harold, Lester and Fred Hangsleben, a sister, Virginia Scheibel-Kramer, a son-in-law, Avery W. Dagenhart and her long time companion, Pepper.
Surviving is her daughter, Judith R. (Robert) Huite of North Aurora, IL, a grandson, Scott J. Dagenhart, of North Aurora, IL, one brother, Norman Hangsleben and three sisters, Blanche Scheibel of O'Fallon, IL, Edith Bland of O'Fallon, IL and Marlene Kabureck of Lebanon, IL. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Isabell Hangsleben, godson, Larry Scheibel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial donations in her memory are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or O' Fallon United Church of Christ.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, Ill.
Funeral: 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the funeral home, with Rev. Christy Eckert officiating. Burial will follow at O'Fallon City Cemetery, O'Fallon, Illinois.
