Obituary

Francis M. Turpin, nee Coy, age 90, of O'Fallon, formerly of Brookfield, Missouri, passed away Thursday morning, December 28, 2006 at her residence.

Frances was born December 13, 1916 in Converse, Missouri. She was a graduate of the Ursuline Academy in Paola, Kansas, and attended Cosmetology School in Kansas City, Missouri. As a young woman, she moved to Brookfield with her father, and worked at a beauty salon. She met her husband-to-be, Clifford G. "Kicky" Turpin, who worked next door to the salon at the Sugar Bowl Restaurant. They married April 17, 1938, and together operated the restaurant until a fire closed the restaurant in 1943. Mrs. Turpin was a homemaker and worked at various hair salons until 1972, when she opened her own salon, Turpin's Salon 116, in Brookfield. She maintained ownership until 2004, when she relocated to O'Fallon, Illinois, to be near her daughter. Mrs. Turpin was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority for more than 60 years. She was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Immaculate Conception Parish and the parish's Altar Society in Brookfield. She helped found the Catholic Club in Brookfield and was one of the original Girl Scout troop leaders in her community. She was a devoted volunteer at her church, its school, the Friends of the Library in Brookfield. She was a parishioner at St. Clare Catholic Church in O'Fallon, Illinois, where she was a member of the Altar Sodality and Senior Citizens Young at Heart Club. Frances was a charming woman, who was full of energy, loved people and loved to play cards, especially bridge. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.

Mrs. Turpin is survived by her children, Pat "Patsy" (Dan) Robinson of Pacifica, CA; Richard Turpin of San Diego, CA; Jane "Gary" Dotson of O'Fallon, IL; grandchildren, Steve (Stacey) Robinson of Gainesville, Fla; Vicki Hancock of Pacifica, CA; Jason Turpin of San Francisco, CA; Roger Turpin of Del Mar, CA; Matthew Dotson, of O'Fallon, IL; and Sarah Dotson of O'Fallon, IL; three great grandchildren, Jake Hancock, Ryan and Nick Robinson. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Arvin and Alma (nee Brazelton) Coy, her husband, Clifford, and her infant brother, Eugene.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Monday, January 1, 2007 at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield, MO.

Funeral Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield with the Rev. Jerry Kaimann presiding. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 6, 2007 at St. Clare Catholic Church in O'Fallon, IL, with the Rev. James Deiters presiding. A reception to celebrate Frances' life will follow.
