Frank B. Austin, age 77, of Shiloh, Ill., died at home on May 1, 2021.
Mr. Austin was a Vietnam veteran and had received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his role in a helicopter rescue of American soldiers, and he had retired from the US Army. An avid reader, Mr. Austin had an interest in military history and was a Sergeant Major, and honorary member of 117 th Illinois Regiment of McKendree. Mr. Austin frequently wrote letters to the editor of the local newspaper. Later in life, he attained his paralegal certificate and had worked for McKendree University Security. Frank was a faithful member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Mr. Austin was preceded in death by an older brother; his parents C.B. and Florence Austin; and his son, Andrew C. Austin.
He is survived by his daughter Heidi E. Austin; sister Sandra Rothe; nephew David Rothe; niece Dr. Julie Coleman; his great-niece Evelyn Coleman; his special cousin Danny Lowry and good friend Charles Matheny.

Graveside service was held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Shiloh Valley Cemetery, Shiloh, Ill. with Pastor David Anderson officiating.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Shiloh, with Pastor Ken Hutchens officiating.
