Frank Santiago, CMSgt, USAF (retired) age 77, of O'Fallon, born August 11, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., surrounded by his loved ones.
Frank grew up in Brooklyn, NY, enlisted in the Navy in 1954 and served four years before transitioning to the Air Force. He served for an additional 26 years, retiring from Command and Control Management in 1984 from Scott AFB, Ill. After his military retirement, he continued working and supporting his family by doing home repairs.
He enjoyed working bingo at the O'Fallon KC Hall and volunteering at the O'Fallon Food Pantry. He attended Catholic services at Scott AFB Chapel, where he served as an usher.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma "Kay" Santiago of O'Fallon, whom he married December 24, 1959; children Frank (Melissa) Santiago, Jr. of Ward, Ark., Linda Kay Santiago, of St. Jacob, Ill., Maria Santiago of Henderson, Nev., Richard A. Santiago of O'Fallon,
and Reina Santiago, of Santa Fe, New Mex.; grandchildren Jared, James, and John Santiago, Christian Santiago, and Max, Adam and Julia Goldberg; brother Louis Santiago of New Jersey, and sister Reina Proscia of Florida.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Grace, nee Donello, Santiago; brother Jerry and sister Hilda.
In lieu of flowers and other gifts, the family requests memorials to the O'Fallon Community Food Pantry. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, September 13, 2013 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home.
Funeral: 10:00 am, Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Thomas officiating. After the services, cremation will follow and his ashes will be buried at sea by the US Navy.
