"Mac" MacFarland
September 19, 1941 – December 4, 2025
Gary Robert "Mac" MacFarland, age 84, of O'Fallon, Ill., formerly of Warner Robins, Ga., passed away December 4, 2025. Gary was born September 19, 1941 in Sacramento, Calif. to Robert F. and Gladys, nee Gregory, MacFarland. Gary's father was a casualty of World War II, and died when Gary was only 3 years old. Gary enlisted in the military at a young age and served honorably for over 26 years, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1986. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served multiple overseas tours. While in Thailand, he met his wife, Bunjong "Mrs. Lyn" whom he married January 7, 1972. He continued in civil service work as a heavy equipment operator for the city of Warner Robins for many years. He spent his retirement years in Georgia, and moved to O'Fallon this past fall to be closer to his daughter.
Gary was an avid fisherman, and a skilled chess player. He enjoyed gardening and tending his fruit trees. Gary's simple pleasures in life were a good tobacco pipe or cigar and a Starbucks Frappuccino.

Survivors include his children Thoy (Isaree) MacFarland Bunleijdeagh of Thailand, Gary R. MacFarland, Jr. of Salt Lake City; and Arena Cheney of O'Fallon, Ill.; grandchildren Troy J. MacFarland, Leanna MacFarland, Robert Astin Cheney, and Amanda Ruth Cheney; nephews Todd Ledgerwood, Brian Ledgerwood; and niece Dulcinea Ledgerwood.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bunjong "Mrs. Lyn" MacFarland and his sister Yvonne Ledgerwood.
