Gene P. DeBolt, 66, of O'Fallon, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of October 15, 2025, while visiting his wife's family in Huejúcar, Jalisco, Mexico, with his wife, Dominga. He was born on November 13, 1958, in Aurora, Illinois, to the late Edward and Priscilla DeBolt.

Gene grew up alongside his three siblings, Tim, Mike, and Ann. After the passing of his parents, he and his siblings were lovingly cared for by their aunt and uncle, Jake and Eleanor DeBolt, creating many cherished memories together.

After spending time in Southern California, where he married and started his family, Gene made his home in O'Fallon, Illinois, building a wonderful life with his loved ones.

Gene dedicated many years of hard work and pride to his career as a groundskeeper at Saint Louis University, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. He retired at the beginning of this year, looking forward to more time with family and the outdoors he loved.

Gene had a natural curiosity and a gift for talking to anyone. He genuinely enjoyed hearing people's stories, and his friendly sarcasm and humor always left them smiling or laughing.

A true outdoorsman, Gene loved hiking, camping, and simply spending time in nature, where he found peace and joy. Organized, knowledgeable, and dependable, he was a man everyone could rely on, always going out of his way to help others whenever it was needed.

He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the countless memories he created with those who knew him. His light and laughter will continue to live on in every story shared about him.

Gene is survived by his wife, Dominga DeBolt, and their children, Brenden DeBolt and Arianna (Claudio) Carrasco.

He will be deeply missed.

Family will receive friends from 10 – 11 am, Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, IL. Funeral Service will begin at 11 am, at the funeral home.
