Obituary

George J. Peach, age 87, of O'Fallon, Ill., born June 19, 1933 in O'Fallon, Ill., died March 18, 2021 in Belleville, Ill.

George was proud to serve his country, enlisting in the Army and serving overseas during the Korean War. After his return, he worked at the Alton & Southern Railway in East St. Louis as a carman. He was a lifelong member of St. Clare Catholic Church serving in different roles/committees through his life, the last being greeters at mass. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in O'Fallon. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion. He was a member of the O'Fallon Booster Club and a member of the O'Fallon Park Board for 15 years serving as president the last 4 years.

He married the love of his life, Mona Stogner of East St. Louis on September 26, 1956. They enjoyed 64½ years of marriage – a number that he was very proud of, always shared with a smile. He was a devoted husband, always concerned for Mona, more so in his later years.

He was a wonderful dad, always involved with any activity his children were involved in. Be it part of the coaching staff or scout leader or simply a fan - always there and supportive. NEVER saying no when called upon for help, often being there before even being asked. This kindness he extended to others as well throughout his life.

Becoming a grandpa (Papa) was one true highlight of his life. He was there for them, too, and never missed an opportunity for any time spent with them.

He was also a great storyteller, just ask anyone who knew him. Sharing stories ranging from his childhood to now. Topics included growing up in a large farm family, working hard, his military time, his railroad job, his health, and of course his favorite topic of all - his family!

Having come from a large family, then marrying into one, gave him many relatives. He enjoyed time spent with the extended family making many memories over the years. He was a man of faith, family, life and a real people person.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mabel, nee Munie, Peach, sister Virginia Fulford, and brother John 'Jack' Peach.

Surviving are his wife Mona, nee Stogner, Peach; children Anthony Peach, Janet Schuyler, Dawn (Dede Spinnenweber) Peach, and Christopher Peach; grandchildren Chalise (Ben) Bondurant, Jordan Schuyler, Erik Schuyler, Julia Peach, Samuel Peach, Austin Peach and Jocelyn Peach, and great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Annalise, and Elliot; siblings Verna Stock, William (Carol) Peach, Joe Peach, Frank (Diane) Peach, Ruth (Jack) Wise, Jean (Art) Eschman, Sam (Gloria) Peach; sister-in-law Ina Peach, brother-in-law Tom Fulford and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorial donations are suggested to St. Clare Catholic Church or Alzheimer's Association.
