Geraldine "Gerry" Dona Simmons, (nee Lowe), age 77, born in St. Louis, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Cedar Ridge Healthcare Center in Lebanon, Ill. Gerry was a registered nurse and worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville in the 1950's. She later worked as a bookkeeper with her husband at Bill's Radio & TV in O'Fallon, Ill. Gerry was a member of the O'Fallon United Church of Christ, the 50 Plus Club at Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star O'Fallon Chapter #487. She was a past member of the Home Extension Club, O'Fallon Main Street Association, and had also served as a Girl Scout leader. Gerry enjoyed traveling with her husband and was able to take her dream vacation to Alaska before her health declined. She enjoyed working with ceramics and absolutely loved being a Grandma.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Virginia (nee Schoen) Lowe; her sister Doris Neirdeck, and her grandson, Donald Jacob Neuner.
Memorial Donations may be made to the O'Fallon United Church of Christ and will be accepted at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband William "Bill" Leroy Simmons, whom she married December 3, 1951 in Paragould, Arkansas; her daughter Donna (David) Roth of O'Fallon Twp.; her son Mark (Diana) Simmons of O'Fallon, her grandsons Jarod Allen (Rachel) Neuner of Peoria, Ill.; Alex William Roth of O'Fallon Twp., and James William Simmons of O'Fallon; great-granddaughter Robin Paige Neuner of Peoria, Ill.; and her niece and goddaughter Vicki Carrell of Jonesboro, Arkansas
Visitation: Friends may call 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, November 23, 2007 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home. The Order of the Eastern Star O'Fallon Chapter #487 will conduct rites at 6:30 pm. Visitation will continue at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating. The O'Fallon United Church of Christ Women's Guild will serve a luncheon immediately following the burial.
Interment will be in O'Fallon City Cemetery, Ill.
