Obituary

Gerard Bernard Schreckenberg, age 81, of Caseyville, Ill., born February 3, 1941 in Leopold, Mo., passed away Monday evening, December 12, 2022.


Gerard grew up in southeastern Missouri. He met his future wife, Sharon (Bollinger) at a local dance, and they married July 8, 1961 in Kelso, Mo. Gerard and Sharon moved to Caseyville, Ill. in 1967. Originally a 50+ year member at St. Albert the Great parish, he continued as an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as an usher and assisted with fish fries, picnics, and PSR activities, and was a member of Knights of Columbus. Gerard had a 30-year career with General Motors, retiring in 1988. In retirement he continued to work as a roofer and then as a landscaper until 2010. He enjoyed being outdoors, throwing horseshoes, playing Euchre and growing a garden big enough to feed family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Marie (Jansen) Schreckenberg; sister Ann Marie Heisie; and brother Patrick Schreckenberg.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Sharon; children Linda (Don) Poggemoeller, Sheila Quirk-Bailey, Alan (Laura) Schreckenberg, Jason (Julie) Schreckenberg, and Amanda (Dan) Ranieri; grandchildren Andrew (Katie) Schreckenberg, Lynn (Thomas) Cooper and Abby Poggemoeller, Sarah (Sam) Katzen and Jacob Quirk, Katlynn and Alisa Schreckenberg, Regan Schreckenberg, and Nolan and Logan Ranieri; one great-grandson Coen Schreckenberg; siblings Alice Thorne, John (Helen), Tom, Vince (Linda), Virgil, and Rita (Jerry) Eftink.


The family will receive friends from 9 – 11 am, Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Tuesday, at the church, with Rev. Jim Nall presiding. Burial will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.

Memorial donations are suggested to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
