Gilbert C. Vollmer, age 86, lifelong O'Fallon resident, passed away January 14, 2024 at St. Paul's Home, Belleville, Ill.

Born November 30, 1937, Gib grew up in O'Fallon and graduated from O'Fallon Township High School in 1955. He joined the Navy in 1956 and served on Midway Island before his honorable discharge at Treasure Island, California in 1960. Gib worked at Scott AFB as a civil servant Budget Analyst for many years. He married Patricia Ann Davis September 8, 1961, and she predeceased him in 2018.

Gib began racing pigeons at the age of twelve; he was the former President of Belleville Racing Pigeon Club. He was a member of the O'Fallon Sportsman's Club and loved to chat with his buddies at the American Legion and other gathering places about town.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Lulu, nee Schuetz, Vollmer, and his infant son Craig.

Surviving are his children Deborah (Greg) Edwards, Julie (Eric) Hahn, Jeffrey (Rachel) Vollmer, and Beth (Jim) Ferry; his 11 grandchildren John (Rachel) Edwards, Sam (Hayley) Edwards, Sara (Logan) Duncan, Emily and Alexander Hahn, Maya, Quinn, Henry, and Tess Vollmer, and Joshua and Ellen Binnion; 2 great-grandchildren Owen and Levi; and his brother Raymond (Vernell) Vollmer.

Visitation will be from 11 am – Noon, Friday, January 19, 2024 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon. Funeral Service will follow at Noon, with Fr. Jim Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
