Gladys M. Sommer, age 86, longtime resident of O'Fallon, born in Texas, passed away Friday afternoon, December 19, 2008. Mrs. Sommer was a retired secretary for Holten Meat Co., formerly of East St. Louis. She loved her family, and her brightest moments were spent surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Victor Sommer, whom she married in 1942 and passed away in 1966, her parents Tilman and Lola, nee Windham, Smith, and her sister Doris Fantini.

She is survived by her two sons Robert (Margie) Sommer of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Donald (Linda) Sommer of Bremerton, Wash., five grandchildren Susan (Dan) Fox, Elizabeth (Brian) Lawinger, Steven Sommer, Amie (Matt) Huff, and Ryan (Jodi) Sommer; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials in honor of Mrs. Sommer are requested to the O'Fallon United Church of Christ Youth Fund.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 26, 2008, and 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer officiating.

Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
