Obituary

Harvey Dressel passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Belleville Memorial Hospital. Harvey was born in O'Fallon, Ill., September 20, 1939.

Harvey was in the Army Reserves and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. He went on to marry Carol Kombrink on June 20, 1959 and they were married for 59 years. Together they built a life and a family in O'Fallon. He had a successful career in the grocery business. He and Carol were business owners of O'Fallon Food & Liquor - a convenience store in town for several years. The employees were like family. A few employees would still ask him to go to lunch, and he would talk about that for weeks after. After retirement he still enjoyed going to the grocery store. He always saw someone he knew and had a story. He loved the memories they created by going to various ball parks to watch the Cardinals play, especially the Cardinal-Cubs series in Chicago. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, working crosswords, and had a great passion for puzzles - many of which he proudly displayed in his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Mary Dressel, wife Carol Dressel, a daughter Connie Barnes, and brothers Lester and Milton Dressel.

He is survived by his daughters Cathy (Tim) Gholson of Tampa, Fla., and Carla (Chris) Hall of Troy, Ill.;  grandchildren Jessica (Maurice) Alston of San Antonio, Tex., Shayne (Kayla Clark) Gholson of Breese, Ill., Cameron (Liz) Barnes of Arlington, Va., Abigail (Marshall) Vallandingham of O'Fallon, Lauren (Matt) Mersinger of St. Jacob, Ill., and Mackenzie Hall of Troy, Ill.; great-grandchildren Xander and Zoee Alston of San Antonio, Tex., Wyatt and Aubree Gholson of Breese, Ill.; and a very special friend and companion Karen Hangsleben.

The family would like to thank his doctors and staff for the special care. Memorial Donations are suggested to the Siteman Center in Shiloh, and will be accepted at the funeral home. Photo tribute and online guest book are available at www.wfh-ofallon.com.

Funeral Service will be at 11 am, Monday, October 23, 2023, at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon, with Rev. Tarrah Vaupel officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 - 11 am, Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be private with the family at Lake View Memorial Gardens.
