Hubert H. Ahring, age 91, of O'Fallon, born October 7, 1922 in Blackjack, Illinois, died Monday, June 16, 2014 at Cedar Ridge Healthcare Center, Lebanon, Illinois.
Mr. Ahring farmed north of O'Fallon until 1974, then worked at Locke Stove until his retirement in 1985. He was an active member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, where he participated in the Men's Group and was a past member of Yesterday's Kids. He was a long-time member of St. Vincent de Paul Society where he volunteered many years as a pall bearer. He was a 50+-year member of O'Fallon Knights of Columbus Council 4239 and was a longtime member of O'Fallon Sportsman's Club. He was also a retreat leader at King's House for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents William F. and Anna M., nee Braksick, Ahring; his infant daughter Debra; and siblings Ben (Jean) Ahring, Arnold Ahring, Lester Ahring, and Frieda Kombrink-Oehmke; grandson Michael Goodman and great-granddaughter Peyton Marie Goodman.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Leona, nee Mueth, Ahring, of O'Fallon, whom he married November 15, 1947; children Patricia (Kenneth) Harbaugh of Red Bud, Gary (Rebecca) Ahring of O'Fallon, Robert (Linda) Ahring of O'Fallon, and Kathy (William) Goodman of Lebanon; sisters Mildred Kimmle and Delores Klingelhoefer;
grandchildren: Kenny (Donna) Harbaugh, Rich (Danielle) Harbaugh, Rob (Lori) Harbaugh, Angie Meddows, Laurie (Terry) MacCauley, Danielle Thorstensen-McKinney, Jamie (Lloyd) Turner, Jennifer (Tim) Evans, Willie (Melissa) Goodman, Joe Goodman, and Bethany (Kyle) Butters;
great-grandchildren: Taylor, MaKenzie, Clair, and Jacob Harbaugh, Ashley Thorstensen, Kylie Meddows, Courtney Jackson, Whitney and Mandy Jackson, Ryan and Nicholas Turner, Timothy, Daniel, Brian, and Louis Evans, William Goodman, Noa Butters, and Riley and Reagan MacCauley; and one great-great grandson Jaxon Paul; and his sister-in-law Pearl Mueth, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial donations in memory of Hubert Ahring are suggested to St. Nicholas Catholic Church Building Fund or as Masses.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 pm, Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Spirituality Center of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O'Fallon, and again after 9:00 am, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the church. Yesterday's Kids will conduct a walk-through at 9:30 am, Saturday, at the church.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 21, 2014, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, O'Fallon, with burial to follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
