Obituary

John Thomas "Jack" White, age 88, lifelong resident of O'Fallon, born July 26, 1927 in O'Fallon, died February 28, 2016 at Hillcrest Nursing Center, Round Lake Beach, Illinois, where he resided the past few months.

Jack will be honored with military rites at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. The procession will depart the funeral home promptly at 12:45 pm, Tuesday. All are welcome to join.

The middle of seven children, Jack grew up in O'Fallon. He loved his community and was an active supporter of many local events, giving tirelessly of his energy and enthusiasm.

He was a member of O'Fallon Boosters, life member of both the VFW Post 805 (past commander) and American Legion Post 137, and worked for many years as the manager of the KC Hall. He was employed as a BiState (MetroBus) bus driver, and after retirement, drove the O'Fallon Township's Rotary Wheels van.

He was a Cardinals' fanatic and loved Spring Training in Florida. Jack was an army veteran and served in Korea during the 1950's. He enjoyed tending his tomato garden and playing penny slots at the casino.

He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia; infant daughter Virginia; son-in-law Richard Plotz; parents Peter and Viola, nee Trinkle, White; and his six siblings.

Surviving are his children Linda Plotz of Antioch, Ill., and John T. White of O'Fallon; five grandchildren Christina Plotz, Amanda (Dustin) Mahan, R.J. Plotz, Erik White, and J.T. White; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations are suggested to Special Olympics or VFW Post 805 and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 am, Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon.

A reception will follow from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, Thursday, March 3, 2016 at O'Fallon Knights of Columbus Hall, 402 E. Highway 50, O'Fallon, Illinois.
