Jacob Benedick, age 36, of Shiloh, Ill., passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023.

Born August 27, 1986 in Belleville, Ill., Jacob grew up in Fairview Heights and Shiloh, and graduated from O'Fallon Township High School in 2005. Growing up, Jacob played hockey with Ice Hawks Hockey Club in Fairview Heights and at OTHS. As a college student at Missouri State University in Springfield, he continued his hockey career, and participated in the Pink Ice Cancer Fundraiser. Jacob supported his community in various ways, including organizing and serving with the O'Fallon-Shiloh Community Thanksgiving Meal and patriotic flag displays around town.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Willard and Monica Nail, and Floyd and Elva Benedick.

Surviving are his parents Thomas and Linda, nee Nail, Benedick; his siblings Christy (Timothy) Spicer, Jeremy (Brandy) Benedick, and Justin Benedick; his nephews and niece Braedon and Nolan Spicer, and Gavin and Sidney Benedick; and his beloved pug Sophie.

Prayer for Serenity

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right
if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, 520 E. Highway 50, O'Fallon, Ill., with Rev. Candice Wassell officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Faith Fellowship Hall until 1:30 pm.
