Jean S. Lapins, nee Sauer, age 93, of Shiloh, Ill., born September 10, 1924 in Chicago, Ill., passed away peacefully Monday morning, November 27, 2017 at her home at Morningside of Shiloh.
Jean grew up in Chicago. She was very talented and painted watercolor pictures and loved classical music. She was a loving wife to Thomas F. Lapins. They formerly resided in Dundee, Ill., and together operated the family business, Thomas Lapins Contracting, where Jean managed the bookkeeping.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas L. Lapins on May 17, 2015; and her parents Michael Josephus Sauer and Mabel Irene, nee Sorensen, Sauer.
Surviving are her five children James Oliver (Sharon) Murphy, Donna Jean Murphy (Mark) Richter, Claudia Lee Murphy Smith (Tom) Taylor, Kimberly Jean Lapins (Mark) Atkins, and Jennifer Lee Lapins (Carlos) Espinosa.
Also surviving are her grandchildren Sean Patrick Murphy, Amanda Lee Smith Larson, Chris Taylor, Charlie Taylor, Steven Richter, Rudi Nicholas Atkins, and Samantha Jean Atkins; great-grandchildren Colin Murphy, Alec Murphy, Grayson Larson, Maslowe Larson, Hutchinson Larson, Eli Nicholas Atkins, Emma Mable Atkins, Ethan Lane Atkins.
Jean lost her eyesight in her later years due to macular degeneration; therefore, to show appreciation to the organization that was helpful to her, memorial donations are suggested to Illinois State Library Talking Book and Braille Service, 300 S. Second St., Springfield, IL 62701.
Funeral: Although there are no formal funeral services, Jean will be cremated according to her wishes, and laid to rest alongside her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis County, Mo.
