Obituary

Jimmie O. Shankle, age 73, formerly of East St. Louis, Ill. born April 20, 1948 in Tyronza, Ark., passed away at Caseyville Nursing and Rehab on March 27, 2022.

Jimmie grew up in Arkansas and enlisted in the US Army just shy of his 18th birthday. He served as a truck mechanic and combat engineer. He was awarded the expert rifle sharpshooter ribbon, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1972. He was a certified welder, worked in oil fields, and had owned and operated a construction company. Jimmie was a member of the O'Fallon VFW Post 805 where he was proud to serve on the Honor Guard team.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Mary Shankle, and sister Joan Shankle.

Surviving are his children Melissa (Cody) Hopper Franks of Batesville, Ark., Alicia, and Jimmie Shankle; brothers Sid, Ralph, and Randy Shankle; sisters Mary and Pat Shankle, of Agnus, Ark.; grandchildren Lucas, Sara, James, & Kayden of Batesville, Ark., and his friends and comrades at the O'Fallon VFW Post 805. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am, Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon.

The VFW Post 805 will conduct a service at 12:30 pm, at the funeral home.

Procession will depart the funeral home at 1:15 pm for a 2:00 pm Graveside Service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. Military honors will be rendered.
