Major John A. Chamberland, USAF, retired, age 82, of O'Fallon, born August 4, 1932 in Victoria, British Columbia, died Thursday evening, October 9, 2014 at his home.
John enlisted in the Air Force in September 1950 as a Private, served 22 years primarily as a Communication officer, and retired as a Major in 1972. He then worked at Action Data Services as a Customer Support Analyst until he retired in June 1994. He was a Life Member and Past Grand Knight of O'Fallon Knights of Columbus Council 4239, Life Member of Pope John Paul I Assembly 1829, and member of the American Legion Post 137 and Life Member of the O'Fallon Sportsmen's Club. John was a fan of the Rams, Cardinals, and Blues and he loved to travel with his beloved wife Pat.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Ann, nee Alspaugh, Chamberland; his parents John and Frances, nee Almonities, Chamberland.
Surviving are his children Suzanne A. Chamberland of O'Fallon, Leslie A. (Don) Kirkwood of Cahokia, Michael A. Chamberland of Swansea, Jeffrey A. (Denise Fee) Chamberland of O'Fallon, and David A. Chamberland of Lebanon; grandchildren Aaron (Angel) Kirkwood,
Christopher (Teresa) Kirkwood of Lebanon; Justin (Erin) Chamberland of Irving, Tex.,
Brandon Chamberland of St. Charles, Mo.; and great-grandchildren Chevy, Jade, Elizabeth, Tyler, and Bryce.
Memorials are suggested to St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church to reduce the mortgage.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Shiloh. Knights of Columbus will conduct a Chalice Service at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, at the church. Visitation will continue at 9:00 am, Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the church.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am, Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the church, with Msgr. William J. Hitpas presiding. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Shiloh, Illinois.
